In subject-specific comparisons, Education and Educational Research at the University of Jyväskylä ranked 42nd in the world rankings as the best university in Finland. Arts and Humanities also ranked well, in the second place in Finland and number 186 in the world rankings.
The global ranking by U.S. News & World Report is based on indicators such as research reputation and the number of publications and citations. The new edition includes country, regional and subject-specific rankings. This year the comparison included 2,000 universities from 95 countries.
In subject-specific comparisons, the University of Jyväskylä ranked in Education 11th in Europe and 42nd in the world. JYU was 186th in Arts & Humanities. In other fields, JYU was ranked in Mathematics (245), Social Sciences and Public Health (253), Psychology (263), Physics (397), Environment/Ecology (447), Chemistry (459), and Clinical Medicine (572).
Jyväskylä was the seventh highest of nine Finnish universities on the list. From Finnish universities, the University of Helsinki and Aalto University were ranked highest. The list also included the University of Turku, the University of Eastern Finland, the University of Tampere, the University of Oulu, Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology and Åbo Akademi University.
The top three universities on the global list are Harvard, MIT and Stanford in the US. The top three European universities are Oxford, Cambridge and University College London.
