University of International Business and Economics (China) UIBE celebrates 70th anniversary
The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) held a grand gathering to celebrate its 70th anniversary on Sept. 19 in Beijing.
Officials from the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), and the Beijing municipal government as well as representatives of sister universities, alumni, teaching staff, and students attended the event, which was presided over by UIBE Party Chief Jiang Qingzhe.
While addressing the gathering, Vice-Minister of Education Tian Xuejun said that the UIBE has made great achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance, innovation, and international exchanges and cooperation.
UIBE is the Chinese cradle for cultivating opening-oriented talents, said Wang Shouwen, vice minister of commerce and deputy China international trade representative. MOFCOM will implement the agreement with the MOE to facilitate UIBE’s development with additional support.
UIBE President Xia Wenbin said the school is well prepared to transform its means of education to focus on the latest scientific and technological developments and further improve its distinctive range of disciplines and academics as well as education and teaching.
UIBE boasts a free academic atmosphere, multiple discipline divisions, and diverse cultural exchange, providing a relaxed learning environment for its students that helps them develop a broad international way of thinking and tenacious personalities, said Yu Xubo, a UIBE alumnus and chairman of the China General Technology (Group) Holding Company.
Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Zhang Xiangchen; former Secretary to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Lin Jianhai; Austrian Ambassador to China, Andreas Riecken; Malaysian Ambassador to China, Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin; and University of Leeds Chancellor, Jane Francis, sent their congratulations via video for UIBE’s 70th anniversary.
