At the beginning of November, the research project ‘Arven etter Dannevig’ was awarded NOK 6 million from Aust-Agder utviklings- og kompetansefond. The project is a collaboration between the University of Agder and the Institute of Marine Research.
“It is great to see that Aust-Agder utviklings- og kompetansefond supports the project and helps strengthen marine science expertise in Agder. The scientific communities in the region are growing, and the project will further position these communities in the time ahead”, says marine researcher Halvor Knutsen.
Knutsen also heads the Centre for Coastal Research (CCR) at UiA.
The new project aims to foster innovative research in techno-ecology in marine coastal monitoring.
“We will, among other things, develop a camera solution for the planned coastal observatory at Torungen lighthouse. Data from the coastal current in Raet National Park will be processed there, in real time using artificial intelligence. This will make it a unique warning system for major changes along the coast”, says Tonje Knutsen Sørdalen, a researcher from UiA and project manager of ‘Arven etter Dannevig’.
