UK (University of Gloucestershire) Booking open for University of Gloucestershire Anti-Racism Social Work Conference 2022

University of Gloucestershire is hosting an anti-racism conference in partnership with Gloucestershire County Council, bringing together social work students and practitioners to help inform practice within the social work sector.

The University of Gloucestershire Anti-Racism Social Work Conference 2022 is part of the University’s wider commitment to collaboration and learning between its School of Health and Social Care and Gloucestershire County Council.

Keynote speakers will include Gurnam Singh, Associate Professor in Social Work at Coventry University; Shantelle Thomas, Course Lead, MA Social Work at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and Anti-Racism Lead at the British Association of Social Workers; Tanya Moore and Glory Simango, social workers and editors of ‘The Anti-Racist Social Worker– Stories of Anti-Racist Social Work Activism’.

The conference will be held on Friday, 20 May 2022 between 9am and 4.30pm at the University’s Oxstalls Campus in Gloucester. The conference is open to all Social Work students and is free to attend but tickets must be booked in advance.

Suzanne Sheldon, Academic Subject Lead for Social Work and Social Care within the University’s School of Health and Social Care, said: “The Conference underlines our dedication as social work practitioners and students to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

“It will be a great opportunity to network with practitioners and students who care about anti-racist social work practice and social justice and listen to keynote presentations covering important issues impacting our practice, our relationships, our confidence, and our commitment to anti-racism.

“We’ll engage in conversations about race, racism and anti-racism to inform our practice and day-to-day lives, making commitments to enhance future practice.”

The Conference may also help attendees meet Social Work England (2019) Professional Standards, BASW (2018) Professional Capabilities and Continuing Professional development.
