Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina (Argentina) – A university for Ecology

As part of its commitment to a healthy environment, the UCA installed 900 photovoltaic solar modules with which 30 percent of the energy consumed is produced. This project aims to improve energy quality and respect for a healthy environment. Initially, panels had been placed around the UCA buildings. The most recent stage included the installation of 439 additional panels on the metal roofs of the Puerto Madero Campus, with which the system will cover more than a third of the energy consumed annually at the Buenos Aires site.

The project was promoted by the Faculty of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences and the Directorate of Operational Services, with the advice of the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA). It is in tune with Pope Francis’ call in the encyclical Laudato si’ to contribute to sustainable development by responsibly assuming the effects of climate change.

On the other hand, in 2022 the first solar garage was created at the Santo Tomás de Aquino School in Colegiales, where more than 300 panels were installed. They were placed on a pergola, forming the first solar parking lot of the University with the coverage of 36 garages. In addition, another 108 photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof of the establishment. It is estimated that this will cover more than 50% of the energy consumption of the entire building.
