Peking University (China) PKU participates in the construction of Huairou Science City

Peking University, March 23, 2022: The infrastructure of three major science and technology projects in Huairou Science City (HSC), in which PKU has played a crucial role, will complete its construction this year. These key projects, once come into service, will facilitate China’s research in various fields, including medical science, high-energy physics and life sciences.

Located in the northeast of Beijing, HSC represents Beijing’s endeavor to build an international innovation center for science and technology. These three projects, which include the construction of the National Multimode Trans-Scale Biomedical Imaging Center , the Beijing Laser Acceleration Innovation Center, and the Interdisciplinary Institute of Light-Element Quantum Materials , are taking shape in this cradle for innovation.
The National Multimode Trans-Scale Biomedical Imaging Center can provide us sharper photographs for the objects we focus on, for items as minute as a single molecule to as large as a human body. With this, scientists can gain visualized photos of the intracellular structures as well as precise information about them, which underpin research of life activities and serious illness, and uncover the mysteries of biology.

Compared to traditional accelerators, the laser accelerator is akin to pressing the “fast forward key”, for it is able to propel the particles with greater acceleration. On the micro-scale, the highly accelerated particles are able to acquire high energy, which will provide new prospects in the development of novel minuscule proton therapy equipment. Going forward, the Beijing Laser Acceleration Innovation Center will act as an important platform for the interdisciplinary scientific research.

The Interdisciplinary Institute of Light-Element Quantum Materials  explores new light-element quantum materials, realizes the detection and control of the full quantization effect, and further leads to development of related devices.
PKU will contribute more to the construction of the HSC projects, and is committed to building HSC as a base for novel cutting-edge technologies.
