National Technical University of Athens (Greece) Memorandum of Cooperation between Samsung and the National Technical University of Athens

Athens, 23 November 2022 – Samsung Electronics Hellas and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) announce their agreement for a Memorandum of Cooperation. With an eye on the future and a focus on educating young people in digital technologies, Samsung is partnering with one of the leading higher education institutions in Greece. The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed on Wednesday, November 23 at Samsung’s offices in Athens, by the President of Samsung Electronics Hellas, Byungmoo Theofilos Shin and the Rector of NTUA, Andreas Boudouvis, in the presence of Emilios Halamandaris, Head of Research and Development at Innoetics, Georgios Vardaxoglou, Director of Synthetic Speech Product at Innoetics, Irini Vassiliou, Head of Brand Marketing & Communication at Samsung and the NTUA Vice Rector Evangelos Sapountzakis, Ioannis Chatjigeorgiou and Drossos Gintides.

 

The President of Samsung Electronics Hellas, Byungmoo Shin, said: “We are proud of this special collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens, which through joint research and educational actions, will provide new opportunities for development and innovation and will broaden the horizons of many young people, researchers and students. The collaboration aims to create new bridges of cooperation between the academic world and industry, in a broad framework of activities with an emphasis on joint research and educational actions, which will significantly benefit students, researchers and workers of the country. The aim of the agreement is the exchange of knowledge in developing fields of technology, science and AI technology, the provision of educational activities in these fields as well as the design and implementation of training programs for workers and researchers.

 

The agreement, among other, includes:

  • The creation of a talent development program for the implementation of projects
  • The exchange of knowledge between the parties at an academic level and the joint organization of events
  • Joint applications to national or European funding programs
  • The design and organization of seminars or training programs
  • The organization of career and professional rehabilitation events to promote the interface between academia and industry
  • Possibilities for practical training and preparation of industrial doctoral theses (PhD)

 

NTUA Rector, Andreas Boudouvis, noted: “NTUA’s cooperation agreement with Samsung Electronics Hellas, a company with an iconic international base, aims to connect education and research with technology transfer, innovation and the labor market. Aiming at supporting our students and young researchers, the broadening of professional prospects and opportunities and the utilization of their talent and abilities, NTUA contributes to the shaping of the relevant Greek ecosystem, dominated by the efficient interaction of the university with industry and businesses. The cooperation between NTUA and Samsung in cutting-edge technologies and especially in digital technologies, in addition to its extremely promising prospects, also draws from success stories, such as of Innoetics, where NTUA graduates showed their class as startuppers”.
