The Vice-Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, has reiterated that his administration will be hinged on entrepreneurship. Prof. Iwe restated this commitment while hosting a delegation from the University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) who paid him a courtesy visit, on Wednesday, to mark its Entrepreneurial Club Week.
Speaking during the visit, the Vice-Chancellor noted that entrepreneurship would foster skills development and generate the funds needed to run the University, hence the need to give it ample attention.
Prof. M.O Iwe thanked the leader of the delegation and Director of, the Center for Entrepreneurship Development of the University, Prof. Oji Ekumankama for his efforts to develop entrepreneurial skills among the students.
On his part, Prof. Ekumankama commended the Vice-Chancellor for his continuous support to the Centre which he said has led to the growth of the University’s Entrepreneurial Club and the successful mobilization of students for entrepreneurial activities.
Speaking at the visit, the President of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Entrepreneurial Club, Umudike, Chiedozie Abaleke, briefed the VC on activities slated for the Entrepreneurial Club Week and thanked the University management for her support.
The high point of the visit was the presentation of an award of excellence to the Vice-Chancellor.
Speaking during a lecture to mark the commencement of the Entrepreneurial Club Week, the VC, who was represented by the
Dean of Students Affairs, Prof. Mark Ogbuagu, urged the students to continue representing the University positively and also disseminate the message of entrepreneurship everywhere they go.
While addressing the audience during the lecture, the Director of the Centre, Prof. Ekumankama stressed that entrepreneurship is encouraged in Nigeria because it guarantees self-employment and contributes to economic growth and development.
Delivering his lecture titled, “Security perspective, its role, and importance for entrepreneurship”, the keynote speaker at the lecture, CSP Paul Urom who was represented by Dr. Scholastica Urom, stressed the importance of security in entrepreneurship.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to Prof. M.O. Iwe, Prof. Oji. O. Ekumankama; Prof. Mark Ogbuagu; Secretary of CED, Mr. G.O Chukwu, and CSP Paul Chukwu Urom. The VC’s Confidential Secretary, Mrs. Nnenna Ochulo was also among the awardees.
The event was attended by students, staff, and other management staff of the University.
