UK (Liverpool Hope University) Clinical and industry leaders attend third Shoulder Rehabilitation Conference
Liverpool Hope University’s third biannual Shoulder Rehabilitation Conference saw physiotherapy and rehabilitation experts gather to discuss the latest evidence and future of shoulder pain management.
Clinical experts, researchers, and industry leaders from around the world visited Hope Park for the two-day event, which combined fresh scientific knowledge and world-leading clinical expertise to consider a broad range of shoulder pain scenarios.
The conference, entitled Zebras and Horses: Thinking outside the box in shoulder pain, hosted speakers from the UK, Belgium, Ireland, USA, and the Netherlands.
This included Jo Gibson, the internationally renowned upper limb specialist physiotherapist, Ian Horsley, the Athlete Health Lead Physiotherapist responsible for Upper Limb and Respiratory Health for the English Institute of Sport, and Laura Finucane, who is President of the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT).
The conference focused on shoulder pain caused by and originated from different parts of the human body but the shoulder itself.
It explored broad and complex factors in the assessment and management of patients with shoulder pain and how those factors reinforce the need for the development of inter- and multidisciplinary intervention strategies.
Alongside several symposiums and clinical workshops, there were exhibitions from medical equipment manufacturer BTL Medical, pain treatment product and service provider Winback Tecar Therapy, and Vicon, the leading developer of motion capture products and services for the life sciences.
“The Shoulder Rehabilitation conference at Hope has unquestionably become a flagship speciality international event in the field of shoulder rehabilitation,” said Professor Omid Khaiyat, Dean of the School of Health and Sport Sciences and chair of the conference
“The conference was a huge success and the scale of positive feedback from the renowned speakers, industry representatives, and conference delegates has been tremendously overwhelming.
“The success of the conference has led to the School and University hosting the North West Upper Limb Group educational event in February 2023, while discussions are also underway in relation to hosting the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation (EUSSER) annual meeting at Hope Park during summer 2023.”
