Ghana (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology) Vice-Chancellor Pays Official Visit To South Dakota State University
The Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson has visited South Dakota State University (SDSU) to renew KNUST’s partnerships with SDSU. Accompanied by the Registrar, Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng, Finance Officer, Mr. Yaw Nimo-Baffour, Dean of the International Programmes Office (IPO), Professor Daniel Y. A. Duah and Senior Assistant Registrar of the Advancement and Alumni Relations Office, Mr. James Kwasi Oberko, the Vice-Chancellor was received by the Provost of SDSU, Professor Dennis Hedge.
In his welcome address, Professor Hedge said that SDSU has been looking forward to this great opportunity and was truly excited about the visit. Referring to the existing partnership agreement, he recounted the gains that both SDSU and KNUST had recorded. He concluded that SDSU could not wait for the formulation and execution of a broader-scoped renewed partnership.
Professor (Mrs.) Dickson expressed delight at the mutual relationship that both universities have enjoyed in the past. According to her, the challenges that COVID-19 posed to the globe, fostered more collaborations between individuals and institutions to fight same. Those crucial collaborations she said, should continue for ground-breaking successes to be chalked. She, therefore, entreated both universities to consider co-supervision, joint research, curriculum development, and student exchanges in the areas of Nursing, Pharmacy, Architecture, Agriculture, Medicine, Engineering, and other common areas of interest for both universities.
The Vice-Chancellor of KNUST and her team were taken on a tour of some facilities of SDSU including the $50m Raven Precision Agriculture, for Agriculture Engineering Research, Teaching, and Laboratory as well as the Davis Diary Plant where the milk is obtained from cows in the University and processed into ice cream and cheese mainly by students at the SDSU to enhance internally generated funds.
Later in the evening the President of SDSU, Barry H. Dunn hosted the team from KNUST to a dinner in honour of the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST at the Jensen-Smith Conference Room, SDSU Foundation Building. President Dunn expressed delight at the engagements so far towards the expansion of the collaboration between the two institutions. Also present at the dinner were Provost Hedge, Vice President for the International Office Dr. Jon Stauff, Deans, Associate Deans, and Faculty and Staff of the International Office.
