Nigeria (Igbinedion University) Igbinedion Varsity Hosts Maiden Edition Of Pharmacoposium

Nigeria’s premier private university, Igbinedion University Okada on Friday 18th March 2022 played host to the first Edition of the Pharmacoposium by the National Secretariat of the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students (PANS). The two-day event which commenced on 18th March, provided a platform for the exchange of creative ideas among the college members, pharmaceutical industry associates, health care professionals and the students, and would help transform the future pharmacists into competent professionals.

The grand celebration attended by over 350 pharmacy students from 26 Nigerian universities, started with inaugural session followed by an intellectual exchange by students of various higher institutions. The theme of the event was “ Global Health Summit “.

Delivering her keynote address, Pharm. Abimbola Adebakin,CEO at Advantage Health Africa, focused on the tripartite collaboration of Government, Industries and Universities to develop research on drugs, by giving maximum priority to research and development. She stressed that universities should aim and work on this to create new knowledge.

Highlighting the significant role of the pharmacists in contemporary society, other key note speakers insist that quality treatment with appropriate medicines remained the benchmark for the Pharmacy profession.

In his opening address, the Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye Ph.D, FAS ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raphael Igbinosa Adeghe, encouraged the students to remain steadfast in their academic pursuits while emphasizing the usefulness of the pharmacist towards tackling global health challenges.

Professor Adeghe also excitedly informed the audience that Igbinedion University Okada is set to commence the training and award of Pharm.D degree, beginning from the next academic session.
