Belgium (Catholic University of Leuven) UCLouvain is Belgium’s leading French-speaking university

UCLouvain is ranked 195th in the 2022-23 edition of the QS ranking. It thus remains the leading French-speaking Belgian university. KU Leuven remains the leading Belgian university.

KU Leuven, Ghent University and UCLouvain are among the 200 best universities in the world, according to the QS World University Ranking, an annual ranking of the world’s 1,400 best universities, unveiled on 8 June by the British higher education analysis agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

Ranked 76th, KU Leuven remains the best Belgian university, followed by Ghent University (143rd) and UCLouvain (195th). Our university thus remains the ranking’s leading French-speaking Belgian university.

The QS ranking is based on five criteria: academic reputation (worth 40%), faculty-student ratio (20%), number of scientific citations (20%), proportion of international students and professors (10%) and labour market reputation (10%). On the last criterion UCLouvain shows the greatest progress (+31 points).

At the global level, American and English universities top the list: the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which has ranked first for the past 11 years, followed by the University of Cambridge and Stanford University.

Its 195th place allows UCLouvain to remain in the top 14% of the world’s best universities, an achievement considering the resources allocated to Belgian universities.
