Ghana (Ashesi University) The Coca-Cola Foundation Awards Grant to Ashesi For Student-Centered Service Programmes

The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF) has awarded a $90,000 grant to Ashesi University to support a programme – the Social Impact Fund – dedicated to catalysing student-centred community service projects in education. Student projects such as this fall under Ashesi’s Fund for Service, which was started at Ashesi in 2017 and is focused on a broad range of social impact goals and ties into Ashesi’s community service programme – a graduation requirement for all students.

The Coca-Cola Foundation’s grant specifically supports programmes that provide access to meaningful skills and learning for disadvantaged young people in communities in Ghana. The two-year grant will support eight to ten student-centred projects each year with an average award of about $5,000 per project within beneficiary communities.

“Our partnership with The Coca-Cola Foundation enables our students to double down on projects and initiatives that solve pressing problems in the communities they live and work in,” said Abdul Mahdi, Dean of Student and Community Affairs at Ashesi. “I see this as the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership between the Foundation and Ashesi University.”

Speaking on the grant, President of The Coca-Cola Foundation, Saadia Madsbjerg, said, “Empowering young people around the world is important to us, and the projects developed through this program will positively impact communities in Ghana.”
