The opening ceremony of the New Generation Hong Kong and Macao Elites Seminar, jointly organized by JNU and Guangzhou Overseas Friendship Association, was held on Sept. 16.
JNU Party Secretary Lin Rupeng said JNU had cultivated over 400,000 talents from 170 countries and regions since its founding 116 years ago, contributing to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao. JNU always emphasizes the education of Hong Kong and Macao students and supports the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, he said.
Lin said students should spread classic Chinese culture to the world, love their country and cherish the opportunity to learn.
Speaking on behalf of the Canton Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Shitong, the department’s minister, said the seminar provided a platform for cultivating outstanding youths to ensure long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao and strengthen the one country, two systems principle. Wang urged participants to practice what they have learned to promote exchange and cooperation among Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Sun Yu, deputy secretary of the JNU Party Committee, who presided over the ceremony, said the seminar aimed to promote students’ practical ability, pioneering thinking, and work ethic through lectures, youth academic forums, quality development, vocational skills training, social studies, and job recommendations.
Each student in the seminar has two tutors who continue to offer advice. The ceremony awarding letters of appointment to tutors was also held, and the seminar was awarded a flag.
