China (University of Hong Kong) HKU Sports Scholars Triumph at Asian U23 and Youth Triathlon Championships

HKU Sports Scholars, Mr Robin Elg (2021/22 Sports Scholar), Miss Brown Bailee (2018/19 Sports Scholar ) and Miss Hall Charlotte (2023/24 Sports Scholar) have recently represented HKSAR to compete in the Asian U23 and Youth Triathlon Championships held in Nagoya, Japan, on 24 – 25, June, 2023. Together with another teammate, Mr Ng Tai Lung, they formed a very strong team and won a gold medal in the mixed relay competition.

In the men’s U23 half-Olympic distance event, Mr Robin Elg performed outstandingly, won the gold medal. Meanwhile, in the women’s U23 event, Miss Brown Bailee excelled in the swimming event and maintained her advantage in the cycling event, leading the way until the final running segment where she successfully pulled away from most of her competitors, won a silver medal for HKSAR.

Miss Lo Ka Kay, Sports Development Manager of  Centre for Sports and Exercise (CSE), HKU  was very pleased with the performance of the three HKU Sports Scholars. At the same time, she was glad to see that different kinds of sports events have gradually resumed after the pandemic, providing athletes with more opportunities to train and compete. Dr. Michael Tse, CSE Director, was proud of the triathletes’ outstanding achievements and praised the team for their devotion and consistently good performance over the years. “Through the ‘Sports Scholarship Scheme’ and the ‘Top Athlete Direct Admission Scheme,’ the University of Hong Kong has successfully recruited many excellent triathletes and athletes in other sports as well. We look forward to witnessing  even more remarkable developments of local triathletes in Hong Kong in the future,” said Dr. Tse.
