Canada (Canadian Aviation College) About the Night Rating Program

 

The Night Rating (NR) program trains a licenced pilot to obtain the Transport Canada Night Rating endorsement; which is required to legally fly at night. The night rating is part of the CPL training program but is also suitable for PPL holders who do not intend to be commercial pilots.

The Night Rating Program is designed to adhere to Transport Canada’s required flight time, and instrument time.

5 hours a dual night (2-hour cross country); 5 hours a solo night (10 take-offs and landings); 10 hours instrument time.

Students will learn the fundamentals of the theory and the skills to operate an aircraft in a safe manner at night.

Completion of this course results in a competent, skilled, and knowledgeable pilot who can safely act as PIC of an aircraft during the night

Prerequisites

  • Canadian PPL Licence

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course the successful student will / have to demonstrate(d):

  • The knowledge required to plan and execute flights at night

  • The environmental and physiological factors associated with flying at night

  • The skills to operate an aircraft at night, including effective instrument flying skills, and landing in low vis/night conditions with and without a landing light.

  • Flight training workbooks with lesson plans; VNC and VTA maps;

  • Canadian Flight Supplement;
