Namibia (International University of Management) IUM alumni association rebranding and reunion dinner

IUM Alumni held an “IUM Alumni Association Rebranding and Reunion Dinner” on Saturday, 22 October 2022, at the Main Campus, Dorado Park, Windhoek. This prestigious event was celebrated under the theme “Together Again, IUM for life”.

The association aims to bring alumnus together through activities such as Events, Programs, Community Engagements and sports Projects.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Prof. David R. Namwandi, IUM’s Founder and Council Chair thanked everyone for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the historic and prestigious event.

The Founder said the university will continue to transform the lives of individuals into leaders/job creators and not job seekers, stating that “No graduates of IUM should be unemployed. We have decided to have what we call ‘seed capital’ to help products from IUM, UNAM, NUST, and other accredited institutions who develop or have a bankable project to be assisted with the startup capital to their business. We have already started”.

Guest speaker Dr. Rakesh Wahi, Chairman: CMA Investment Holdings (Class of 2012) was delighted to see so many fellow IUM Alumni at the event, and urged the youth to no longer seek opportunities overseas but look at means of innovating and becoming entrepreneurs, set up businesses in an economic region that will have over 2 billion people over the next 30 years.

He also stated that Alumni members must build a base of resources for the association to be self-sustainable to carry out its planned annual activities, such as events, programs, community engagements and sports projects. “Fellow alumni members, I call on everyone, to become active supporters of the IUM Alumni Association by cultivating a culture of becoming donors. Every contribution makes a difference” said Dr. Wahi.

Also speaking at the same event, Keynote speaker, Dr. Erastus ‘Chicco’ Shapumba (Class of 2016) congratulated the IUM Founder and Chairperson of the IUM Governing Council for having the vision and foresight to put into motion the Office of the IUM Alumni Relations, to serve the IUM Alumni Association members, IUM Alumni, the university, the Namibian community as well as the global community.

“As an IUM Alumni Association member, and a business personality in the Republic of Namibia, I urge all the IUM Alumni Association members and IUM alumni to go out in full force and support the alumni office and pay your annual membership fees urgently to sustain the alumni office to carry out its planned activities”, said Dr. Shapumba.

The event was accompanied by cultural activities and an opportunity for monetary pledges towards IUM students and alumnus activities. By the end of the evening, N$2,356,150.00 was pledged, with alumnus Dr. Erastus ‘Chicco’ Shapumba topping the list with N$2,000,000.00.
