Ghana (African University College of Communication) unveils new management

 

The African University College of Communications (AUCC) on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 unveiled its new management headed by Prof. Isaac Abeku Blankson as President. Prof Blankson takes over from Dr. Christopher Akwaa-Mensah whose tenure has ended.

The university which was adjudged the Best (Private) Communication School in Ghana in July, 2021 by the Private Universities Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG), has also appointed Prof. Felix Kwame Aveh as Vice President (Academic), Dr. Mrs. Juliana Owusu-Ansah as Registrar, Prof. Vijay Bhasin as Dean of the Sam E. Jonah School of Business, Dr. Nefertiti Puplampu as Head of Quality Assurance and Senior lecturer, and Dr. Femi Wale-Olaitan as Senior lecturer in the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

In his handing over address, the outgoing President, Dr. Christopher Akwaa-Mensah expressed his commitment to support the University at all times. He was grateful to the University Council, Faculty, Staff and Students for the opportunity to contribute to the development of the Institution.

The new President of AUCC, Prof. Abeku Blankson expressed his resolve to make AUCC the preferred institution of higher learning for both current and prospective students. “The educational landscape has changed completely and we need a new direction to bridge the gap between education and industry that incorporates new technologies, industry needs and focus on entrepreneurship to meet the new challenges” he added.

He charged faculty, staff and the alumni to rise to the challenge to make AUCC rise again. He stressed the need to work as a team and advised faculty and staff to be sensitive and ethical in their engagement with students and the general public to change the narrative and create more opportunities for growth.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Kofi Asare Opoku said “AUCC has set itself the noble task of ensuring that the education it offers its students enable them to untangle the knots of the limited beliefs we have about ourselves as Africans”. He wished the new Management well as they begin their worthy efforts towards progress and the realization of the vision of the founder of the institution.

The Founder of AUCC, Hon. Kojo Yankah who chaired the event tasked the new management to strive for excellence by inculcating ethical values into the university community. He said this will propel AUCC to become a citadel of knowledge not only in Ghana but across the world.

Mr. Yankah paid glowing tributes to the outgoing President, Dr. Christopher Akwaa-Mensah,  the Chair of  Journalism Programme, Prof. nana essilfie-condua and the Dean of the  School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Kingsley Andoh-Kumi.

Until his appointment, Prof. Isaac Abeku Blankson was the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU). He holds a PhD in Communication from Ohio University and has extensive experience in university management both in the United States and Ghana.

 

African University College of Communications offers undergraduate degree programmes in Communication Studies and Business Administration. The university has also introduced post-graduate programmes in Communication Studies, Project Management and Accounting and Finance.
