Biography
Dr. Md. Abul Barkat is an accomplished academician and researcher, currently holding the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics at the College of Pharmacy, University of Hafr Al Batin, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Barkat possesses more than a decade of combined teaching and research experience, demonstrating a strong dedication to the advancement of drug delivery science, especially in the fields of nanomedicine and targeted therapies.
Dr. Barkat obtained his Ph.D. in pharmaceutics from Integral University, India, focusing on the advancement of nanostructured drug delivery systems for burn and wound care. He possesses a master’s and bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi, India, where he also completed an additional course in Unani Pharmacy, showcasing his interdisciplinary expertise.
Dr. Barkat's research interests include the development and optimization of herbal/synthetic drug-loaded nanostructured delivery systems, controlled-release drug delivery systems, bio-enhanced drug delivery systems, nanomaterials, and nanocomposites for a variety of conditions like burns, cancer, neurological disease, etc.
His work has been recognized globally, earning him a place in Stanford University’s list of the top 2% scientists for 2023-2024, highlighting his significant scholarly contributions. He has an extensive publication record, with more than 80 high-impact articles in journals of high repute, including Scientific Reports, Seminars in Cancer Biology, Journal of Controlled Release, Drug Discovery Today, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Nanomedicine, etc. He has also contributed to academic literature with 15 book chapters and 9 books. Among his works, his book on the Graduate Pharmacy Exam for fellowship has been widely accepted by pharmacy students in India, underscoring his influence in pharmaceutical education.
In addition to his research, Dr. Barkat plays a significant role in the scientific community by serving as a guest editor and reviewer for various prestigious journals published by Nature, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, Future Science, MDPI, and others.
His academic influence reaches into the classroom, where he instructs a diverse array of courses in pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical biotechnology, and pharmacy practice. He is a committed mentor, currently overseeing Ph.D. research and actively participating in institutional committees that concentrate on research development, curriculum design, and quality assurance.
Beyond academia, Dr. Barkat is committed to knowledge dissemination, having participated in international conferences, webinars, and workshops worldwide. His work bridges the gap between traditional medicine and modern nanotechnology, offering innovative solutions for global health challenges.
