Biography
I have worked on gender and development concerns for over twenty years. I worked at the Global Development Institute at the University of Manchester for most of my academic career until I moved to the Middle East at the American University in Beirut. I am now a research Fellow at ESA developing research strategies to aid women's political agency. I am specifically interested in women's empowerment and development and how women's organization's are playing a leading role in the SDG attainment. My work currently focuses on female domestic workers, women's human right's and women's political leadership in MENA states. I use an Islamic Feminism lens to stress my commitment to advancing a decolonial ethic, and to challenge Western models of social and economic progress. I have worked in Bahrain, Egypt, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, India, Russia, Singapore and Malaysia and UAE.
