Biography
Dr. Hisham Salaheldin Shazali is an Environmental Consultant with over 30 years of multidisciplinary expertise spanning environmental sustainability, climate change adaptation, business development, and agricultural innovation. He currently serves as Director of the Institute of Environmental Studies at the University of Khartoum, leading strategic initiatives in education, research, and community engagement.
Dr. Shazali holds a PhD in Animal Production, along with advanced degrees in Tropical Animal Production and Business Administration from the University of Khartoum. His academic profile is further enriched by advanced studies in business development at the University of Nottingham (UK) and a diploma in experimental design and statistical analysis. His research in environmental sciences centers on climate resilience, the Water-Energy-Food Nexus, and renewable energy governance. He has served as a key researcher on several multidisciplinary projects funded by FAO, DAAD, SIDA, FORMAS, and the Swedish Research Council.
In the field of environmental security, Dr. Shazali contributed significantly to the Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN) of IGAD, where he helped prepare Sudan’s Environmental Conflict Profile — integrating environmental drivers into conflict analysis and early warning systems.
In parallel with his academic work, he has coordinated major Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) for infrastructure, energy, mining, and agricultural projects across Sudan. Dr. Shazali is a member of several national and international scientific bodies, including the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO), Sudan Meteorological Authority (SMA).
With a career bridging science, policy, and practice, Dr. Shazali is dedicated to advancing sustainability, resilience, and peace through interdisciplinary action.
