Chengdu University of technology was founded on March 15, 1956 and was initially named Chengdu Institute of geological exploration. In the early stage of the establishment of the University, the Ministry of higher education and the Ministry of geology jointly issued a document based on the Engineering Department of the Department of geology of Chongqing University, Northwest University and the Department of geology of Nanjing University, and transferred some cadres and teachers of Beijing Institute of Geology and Northeast Institute of geology to establish Chengdu Institute of geological exploration. After the establishment of the University, the petroleum department, part of the second department and the whole of the third Department of the former Beijing Institute of Geosciences have successively moved into an organic system. Chengdu Institute of geological exploration was renamed Chengdu Institute of geology in 1958. Chengdu Institute of geology was renamed Chengdu Institute of technology in 1993. In 2001, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Sichuan College of Commerce and nonferrous metal geology staff University were merged to form Chengdu University of technology. The university has been directly under the Ministry of geology, the Ministry of Geology and mineral resources and the Ministry of land and resources. In 2000, it was transferred to local governments and became a provincial key university jointly built by the central and local governments and mainly managed by the people's Government of Sichuan Province. On November 3, 2010, the Ministry of land and resources and the people's Government of Sichuan Province signed an agreement on jointly building Chengdu University of technology. In September 2017, the university entered the ranks of national first-class discipline construction universities. On December 26, 2019, our university became a "double first-class" Construction University jointly built by the Ministry of education and Sichuan Province.
