Biography
Dr. Manal Awad Khiry is an Associate Professor at the University of Khartoum in Sudan. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the University of Khartoum in 1997. She then completed her Master’s degree in Tropical Forestry in 2003 and her PhD in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems in 2007 at the Dresden University of Technology (TUD) in Germany. With over twenty years of experience, Dr. Khiry has worked at the University of Khartoum, where she has held positions in both the Faculty of Forestry and, later, in the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences. As a prominent tropical forest scientist, Dr. Khiry has expertise in remote sensing and monitoring tropical land. She possesses strong skills in landscape-level monitoring, assessment, and spatial and temporal analysis. Dr. Khiry has collaborated with several organizations, including the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the World Bank (WB), and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Sudan, showcasing her strong leadership abilities and effectiveness in diverse institutional environments.
