Biography

Professor Harmony Musiyarira holds a PhD in Engineering degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, a Master’s Degree in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management, and an Honours degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Harmony is the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and is the former Head of the Department of Mining and Process Engineering. He previously managed Refractory High-Temperature materials, Earthenware, and Sanitaryware ceramic production plants for a formerly Anglo-American Corporation.

Prof Musiyarira was the project leader in developing the Mineral Beneficiation Strategy for Namibia and was instrumental in developing the Namibian Sector Growth Strategy for Coloured Gemstones. He was a member of the Intergovernmental Forum (IGF) project team on Mining, Metals, Minerals, and Sustainable Development that carried out the Mineral Policy Framework Assessment for Namibia. Harmony has proven to establish successful collaboration networks and consultancy projects with the local industry, government, and leading international research institutions. He is a PhD external examiner for the University of Queensland in Australia, the University of Johannesburg, and the Witwatersrand. Harmony was the conference chairperson for the Sustainable Development in the Minerals Industry (SDIMI) conference held in Namibia in September 2022. He is the immediate past President of the Society of Mining Professors (SOMP).
