Cairo University Council held its monthly meeting under the chairmanship of Dr. Mohamed Osman Elkhosht, President of the University, and in the presence of the Vice-Presidents of the University, the Deans of Faculties and the Secretary General of the University, to discuss a number of topics related to the educational, research and service process.

At the beginning of the meeting, Cairo University Council praised the university’s success in topping Egyptian universities in the US News 2022 rankings, and its presence in the top 400 universities to rank 363rd globally out of about 2165 international universities included in the ranking this year.

The Cairo University Council approved Dr. Elkhosht’s directive to consider 2022-2023 as the year of the “October victory”, to keep pace with the celebrations of the Golden Day of the glorious victories of October.

The Council approved the University’s funding for research projects during the fiscal year towards smart green projects so that the University can participate actively in the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects launched by the State, in addition to the selection of Cairo University to participate in the Green Innovation Exhibition at the COP27 Climate Forum with the project “Converting Rice Straw Waste into Economic Products”.

The University Council approved Dr. Elkhosht’s opinion to create an international award in the name of Dr. Taha Hussein, Dean of Arabic Literature, from the highest awards of the University in Arts and Humanities worth EGP 500,000, within the framework of the University’s encouragement of literature, arts and culture as a great scientific beacon in Egypt and the Arab world, in addition to the establishment of a cultural salon called “Taha Hussein Salon”.

The Council also approved raising the value of the Invention Award at Cairo University from EGP 20,000 to EGP 50,000, and amending the executive regulations for the rewards and costs of international scientific publishing at Cairo University.

The University Council approved the protocol of cooperation between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Cairo University, the National Institute of Oncology and the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces to complete the construction of the rest of the facilities of the new National Institute of Oncology in Sheikh Zayed Hospital 500 500, in accordance with the mandates of the President of the Republic.

Dr. Mohamed Elkhosht directed the deans of the faculties of graduate studies for education, quality education, and early childhood education to prepare a guiding proposal for a new regulation for the faculties of education at the university in which the study system will be 3 years in addition to a training year in schools similar to the system of excellence in medical colleges, with the aim of contributing to filling the shortage of teachers in schools and qualifying graduates for the labor market.

The Council approved the regulation on the establishment of the Graduate School of Sustainable Energy at Cairo International University, and the allocation of a headquarters in the international branch of Cairo University to the National Office and the Center for Francophone Employability in Cairo.

The Council approved the Memorandum of Understanding between Cairo University Faculty of Science and Kanazawa University (Graduate School of Applied Sciences) in Japan in the fields of research, education and training programs, and approved the Memorandum of Understanding between Cairo University (Faculty of Computing and Artificial Intelligence) and Huawei Technology Company (Egypt) to establish the Huawei Academy.

The Council approved the establishment of a professional master entitled Certified Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Professional at the Faculty of Pharmacy, the amendment of the Graduate Studies Regulations at the Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence, and the establishment of an administrative and financial regulation for five professional diplomas at the College of Oral and Dental Medicine: Diploma of Forensic Dentistry, Diploma of Dental Nursing, Diploma of Sustainable Dentistry, Diploma of Comprehensive Preventive Dentistry and Diploma of Digital Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry.

The Council also approved the implementation of the work of completing the development and upgrading of the efficiency of the College of Dentistry (the old building) and the work of the College of Dentistry in Sheikh Zayed.

The council approved the disbursement of a bonus of EGP 1,000 to students of special programs who are literacy of 5 or more individuals.
